Procedure

Compound 29 (200 mg, 0.46 mmol) is added to methylene chloride (10 mL) and the solution is cooled to −40° C. Trifluoroacetic acid (3.0 mL) is added and the reaction is stirred for 1 hour maintaining the temperature. The reaction is quenched with methanol (10 mL) at −40° C. and then partitioned between methylene chloride (25 mL) and aqueous sodium hydroxide (1.0 N, 25 mL). The aqueous layer is back extracted with methylene chloride (2×10 mL) and the combined organic layers are washed with aqueous sodium hydroxide (1.0 N, 3×10 mL), then brine and dried over MgSO4. The organic layer is evaporated to dryness and the residue purified using silica gel chromatography with methanol (10%)-methylene chloride (90%) to give compound 30.
