Methyl 5-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-ylmethylcarbamoyl)thiophene-2-carboxylate (0.25 g, 0.90 mmol) in methanol (2.5 mL) was stirred with hydrazine monohydrate (0.17 mL, 3.6 mmol) at 70° C. for 3.5 hours. The precipitated solid was recovered by filtration, washed with chloroform and dried to give the desired product, 5-hydrazinocarbonylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid (1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-ylmethyl)amide (yield 49%).
