Reaction Steps

A solution of ethyl 6-(3-chloro-4-fluorobenzyl)-4-hydroxy-5-oxo-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-2,6-naphthyridine-1-carboxylate 2-oxide (23 g, 58 mol) in acetic anhydride (400 mL) was heated under nitrogen at 100° C. for one hour. The product mixture was concentrated under vacuum to the title bisacetate and was used in the following step without further purification.
