A solution of 17-ethyl-1,14-dihydroxy-12-[2'-(4"-azido-3"-methoxycyclohexyl)-1'-methylvinyl]-23,25-dimethoxy-13,19,21,27-tetramethyl-11,28-dioxa-4-azatricyclo[22.3.1.04,9 ]octacos-18-ene-2,3,10,16-tetraone (210 mg, Example 2, step 2E) and a catalytic amount of p-toluenesulfonic acid in 40 ml of dry benzene was refluxed for 2.5 h under nitrogen atmosphere. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the dark brown residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (40% ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound.
