A suspension of 17-ethyl-1-hydroxy-12-[2'-(4"-azido-3"-hydroxycyclohexyl)-1'-methylvinyl]-23,25-dimethoxy-13,19,21,27-tetramethyl-11,28-dioxa-4-azatricyclo[22.3.1.04,9 ]octacos-18-ene-2,3,10,16-tetraone (20 mg, Example 42)) and silver oxide (20 mg) in 1.5 ml of methyl iodide was refluxed in a gas-tight bottle for 4 days. The yellow solid was filtered off and the excess methyl iodide was removed. Purification of crude material by preparative tlc on silica gel (1:1 hexane/ethyl acetate) gave 4 mg of the title compound.
