Procedure

22.7 g of 3-bromo-4-(1,1,2,3,3,3-hexafluoropropoxy)-5-(trifluoromethyl)acetaminobenzene are heated at reflux for 4 hours in a mixture of 100 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid and 300 ml of ethanol. The bulk of the solvent is then distilled off, the residue is made alkaline with 10% sodium hydroxide solution and extracted with ether. The ethereal extract is dried over sodium sulfate and the solvent is removed in vacuo. Fractional distillation of the residue affords the title compound as a yellowish oil with a boiling point of 115°-120° C./5·10-2 torr (a compound of formula II).
