Procedure

To a solution of Boc-PheCH2F (0.75 g, 2.67 mmol) in anhydrous ether (5 mL) was added a saturated solution of HCl in ether (30 mL). The mixture was stirred vigorously at room temperature for 45 minutes. The suspension was filtered, washed with ether (10 mL), and pumped dry, to give a white solid (0.31 g, 54%). This material was immediately used in the next step.
