3-[[2-Acetylthiomethyl-3-(4-fluorophenyl)-propionyl]amino]benzoic acid sodium salt (compound of Example 40) (0.5 g) is dissolved in water (10 ml), and the mixture is adjusted to pH 2.5 with 1 N hydrochloric acid with stirring under ice cooling, and the mixture is extracted with ethyl acetate (20 ml). The extract is washed with water and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then ethyl acetate is distilled off to give the title compound (0.4 g).
