A mixture of 51 parts of 2-bromo-1-(2-thienyl)ethanone, 28.5 parts of 5-methyl-2-thiazolamine and 240 parts of acetonitrile was stirred for 1 hour while heating on a waterbath. After cooling, the precipitate was filtered off, washed with ethanol and dried in vacuo, yielding 54 parts of 2-(2,3-dihydro-2-imino-5-methyl-3-thiazolyl)-1-(2-thienyl)ethanone hydrobromide; mp. 207.5°-208° C. (interm. 56).
