A mixture of 1-(3-isobutylphenyl)ethanol (1.1 g), triphenylphosphine (3.24 g) and carbon tetrabromide (4.09 g) in ether (20 ml) was stirred at 25° C. for 1 hour. The precipitates were filtered off, and the filtrate was evaporated to give 1-(1-bromoethyl)-3-isobutylbenzene (1.49 g) as an oil.
