A solution of 2.98 g (8 mmol) of 1-(2-ethoxyethyl)-2-{4-(4-aminobutyl)homopiperazin-1-yl-methyl}benzimidazole and 1.06 g (8 mmol) of 2,5-dimethoxytetrahydrofuran hydrofuran in 30 ml of acetic acid is refluxed for 25 minutes. The mixture is cooled, poured into ice cold water, neutralised with NaHCO3 and extracted with chloroform. It is dried using Na2SO4 and evaporated to dryness under vacuum. 3.2 g of the crude compound are thus obtained which are purified on a silica chromatography column (eluent: chloroform-methanol 92:8). Yield 51%.
