Procedure
E or Z-(R)-1-[2-[[2-(3-Methoxyphenyl)-2-(2-methylphenyl) ethenyl]oxy]ethyl]-3-piperidine carboxylic acid ethyl ester (0.50 g, 0.0012 mol) (prepared as described in Method D) was dissolved in ethanol (15 ml) and 12 N sodium hydroxide solution (0.2 ml) was introduced. After stirring the solution at room temperature for 6 h, ice (100 g) was added, and the pH of the reaction mixture was adjusted to ca. 7 with 37% hydrochloric acid solution Dichloromethane (200 ml) was added, and the pH was further adjusted to <2 with 37% hydrochloric acid solution. The dichloromethane phase was dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated to a solid (0.3 g, 60%), m.p. 188°-192°
