In a manner similar to that of Example 2a, by reaction of 260 mg (6.5 mmol) of sodium hydroxide with 340 mg (0.65 mmol) of ethyl 4′-(3-cyclopropylaminopropoxy)-3′-(5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphth-2-yl)biphenyl-4-carboxylate (Example 3a) in 30 ml of tetrahydrofuran. 160 mg of 4′-(3-cyclopropylaminopropoxy)-3′-(5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphth-2-yl)biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid are obtained in the form of a white solid (m.p.=192° C., yield=50%).
