Procedure
A mixture of 40% aqueous methylamine (25 ml) and 5.0 g (0.023 mole) of 4-chloro-1-methyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]quinoline (from Example 114) was placed in a metal pressure reactor and heated at 112° C. for about 16 hours. After cooling, the solid was separated by filtration, washed with water, dried and recrystallized from ethanol to provide N,1-dimethyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]quinolin-4-amine, m.p. 216°-218° C. Analysis: Calculated for C12H12N4 : %C, 67.9; %H, 5.7; %N, 26.4; Found: %C, 67.9; %H, 5.6; %N, 26.4.
