Following the procedure described in Example 42(f), 1.15 g of 2-(2-furyl)-5-oxo-6-phthalimidoperhydro-1,4-thiazepine [prepared as described in step (d) above] was treated with t-butyl bromoacetate, to give 0.86 g of the title compound as crystals, melting at 158°-161° C.
