15.05 g (0.1 mole) of 2,5-difluoro-4-chloropyrimidine were heated under reflux together with 30 ml of 37% strength aqueous hydrochloric acid for 2 hours. The volatile constituents were then stripped off in vacuo, the residue was taken up in 100 ml of water and this mixture was rendered weakly alkaline (pH 7.5) with 20% strength aqueous ammonia. The mixture was then again concentrated in vacuo down to 20% of the original volume. The solid obtained was filtered off with suction and dried. 13.7 g of product with a melting point of 176° to 177° C. (decomposition) were obtained, corresponding to a yield of 92.2%.
