To a solution of 0.200 g (0.69 mmol) of the product of Step C dissolved in 2 mL of carbon tetrachloride was added 0.117 g (0.95 eq) of N-bromosuccinimide and ca. 10 mg (catalytic amount) of AIBN. The reaction mixture was stirred and refluxed under a nitrogen atmosphere for 30 minutes, then cooled and concentrated in vacuo. The residual oil was purified on a silica gel flash chromatography column eluted with 5% ethyl acetate/hexane to afford 0.186 g (73%) of the title compound.
