To a solution of the benzylic alcohol of Step 5 (2.899 g, 6.20 mmol) in EtOAc (120 mL) was added portionwise activated MnO2 (10.15 g, 114 mmol) and the reaction was followed by TLC (EtOAc:toluene 7.5:92.5). When the reaction was completed (approximately 2 h), the mixture was filtered through silica, concentrated, and the title product was purified by flash chromatography on silica using EtOAc:toluene 2.5:97.5. Yield 2.18 g, 85%.
