Reaction Steps
p-Menth-3-oyl chloride (2.0 g.) was stirred with lactic acid (20 ml.) at room temperature for 20 hours. The reaction product was then poured into water (600 ml.) and extracted twice with ether. The extracts were dried (CaCl2) and the solvent removed under reduced pressure to leave 2-(p-menth-3-oyloxy)propionic acid as an oily liquid.
