Procedure
An amount of 575 mg of 2-methoxy-9-carboxy-10,11-dihydrodibenzo[b,f]thiepin was dissolved in 10 ml of anhydrous benzene and to the mixture was added 1 ml of thionyl chloride. The resulting mixture was refluxed for 3 hours and freed of solvent under reduced pressure to obtain 614 mg of 2-methoxy-10,11-dihydrodibenzo[b,f]thiepin-9-carbonyl chloride.
