A mixture of 0.51 g of ethyl 2,2-bisfluoromethyl-6-trifluoromethyl-2H-1-benzopyran-4-carboxylate, 0.13 g of potassium hydroxide and 10 ml of ethyl alcohol was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. Ice water and hydrochloric acid were added to the reaction mixture, and the precipitated crystals were separated by filtration to obtain 0.43 g of 2,2-bisfluoromethyl-6-trifluoromethyl-2H-1-benzopyran-4-carboxylic acid.
