A suspension of 1.2 g. of 4-(2-benzylidene-1-methylhydrazino)-1H-2,3-benzoxazine in 12 ml. of ethanol and 12 ml. of aqueous 5% HCl is heated on a water bath for three hours. The ethanol is removed by distillation and the residue, neutralized with aqueous NaHCO3, is cooled to about 0° C. The precipitate is filtered and crystallized from ethanol. M.p. 122° C. Yield 96%.
