A solution, cooled to 15° C., containing 100 mmol of ethylene oxide in toluene is added slowly to 100 mmol of 4-(N-propionylanilino)piperidine in solution in 100 ml of anhydrous methanol cooled to 15° C. After returning to room temperature and removal of the azeotrope formed by distillation, the expected product is obtained after evaporation to dryness.
