Procedure
1,4-Dihydro-1(2-formyloxyethyl)-7-methyl-4-oxo-N(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxamide (Example 4(1)) (0.5 g) in aqueous sodium hydroxide (3.5 ml), 2N) was heated on a steam bath for 10 minutes. The solution was acidified to pH 1 with a dilute hydrochloric acid and the solid was collected and dried, m.p. 315°-316° (d), (32 %).
