A mixture of [(2S)-2-methyloxiran-2-yl]methyl3-nitrobenzenesulfonate (2.04 g, 7.46 mmol), N-(2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)acetamide ((1.04 g, 5.74 mmol) and Cs2CO3 (2.80 g, 8.61 mmol) in DMF (12 mL) was kept on stirring at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel flash chromatography (ethyl acetate:hexane 1:1) to give the subtitled compound (1.19 g).
