0.40 g (0.84 mmol) of 1-(2-tert. butylphenyl)-6-(2-bromoethyl)-1H-indolo[5,4,3-def]isoquinoline-2,5,7(6H)-trione from Step 1 was dissolved in 40 mL of acetonitrile. After adding 0.35 g (4.20 mmol) of N-methylimidazole, the mixture was stirred at reflux for 2 hours. After removing the solvent, the precipitate was filtered off, washed with ethyl acetate and dried.
