Procedure
Then, using 3.69 g of the compound of Example 12, 1.82 g of anhydrous potassium carbonate, 1.5 ml of chloromethyloxirane and 100 ml of methyl ethyl ketone, reaction and workup carried out as in Example 1-A gave about 4.5 g of 1-(4-benzyloxy-2,3-dimethoxy-5-methylphenoxy)-2,3-epoxypropane as yellow oil. Using this epoxy compound, 3.05 g of 1-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine and 100 ml dioxane, reaction and workup carried out as in Example 1-A followed by purification by column chromatography (silica gel, elution with ethyl acetate:hexane=1:0.5) gave 4.61 g of yellow oil.
