Procedure
Using 3.25 g of 4-acetoxy-2,5-dimethylphenol, 2.49 g of anhydrous potassium carbonate, 2.8 ml of chloromethyloxirane and 50 ml of methyl ethyl ketone, reaction and workup carried out as in Example 1-A gave about 2.97 g of 1-(4-acetoxy-2,5-dimethylphenoxy)-2,3-epoxypropane as yellow oil. Using the epoxy compound thus obtained, 2.66 g of 1-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine and 100 ml of dioxane, reaction and workup were carried out as in Examples 1-A and 4. After hydrolysis, workup and then conversion to hydrochloride with 2N HCl, recrystallization from methanol-acetone gave 0.80 g of white crystals, m.p. 214-215° C. (decomp.).
