Using 4.30 g of 4-acetoxy-2,3-dimethylphenol, 4.6 ml of chloromethyloxirane, 3.30 g of anhydrous potassium carbonate and 100 ml of methyl ethyl ketone, reaction and workup carried out as in Example 1-A gave about 6.05 g of 1-(4-acetoxy-2,3-dimethylphenoxy)-2,3-epoxypropane as brown oil. Using the epoxy compound thus obtained, 4.60 g of 1-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine and 100 ml of dioxane, reaction and workup were carried out as in Examples 1-A and 4. After hydrolysis and workup followed by conversion to hydrochloride with 2N HCl, recrystallization from methanol gave 2.55 g of white crystals, m.p. 228-230° C. (decomp.).
