To a solution of (3′-benzyloxybiphenyl-2-yl)methanol from Example 4, Step E (247 mg, 0.851 mmol) in dry CH2Cl2 (5 mL) was added thionyl chloride (1.01 g, 8.51 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 hours, then concentrated to dryness in vacuo. The residue was concentrated twice from cyclohexane in vacuo to yield the titled compound.
