A mixture of an ethanolic solution of 1 (1 g, 2.6mmol) and PtO2 (50 mg, 10%) is hydrogenated at 15 psi on a Parr hydrogenator for 4 h and filtered through celite. The filtrate is concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure to afford 2-amino-5-[4-(difluoromethoxy)phenyl]-5-[3-(3-hydroxypropyl)phenyl]-3-methyl-3,5-dihydro-4H-imidazol-4-one, 830 mg, identified by NMR and mass spectral analyses.
