2-benzotriazolyl-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)ethan-1-one was dissolved in dimethyl-formamide dimethyl acetal (5 mL) and the solution refluxed for 8 h. Evaporation of the solvent gave 2-benzotriazolyl-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-3-(dimethylamino)prop-2-en-1-one as an air sensitive red solid which was used in the next step without further purification.
