To a solution of of 2-benzyloxycarbonylamino-2-methyl-N-[2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-4-oxo-1-[[2′-[(t-butoxycarbonylamino)methyl][1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl]methyl]-1H-naphtho[2,1-b]azepin-3(R)-yl]propanamide (Step H) in methanol is added 9N aqueous hydrochloric acid. The reaction mixture is stirred overnight at room temperature then the solvent is removed under vacuum. The resulting oil is dissolved in methanol and the solvent is removed under vacuum to afford the title compound.
