Procedure

7-Chloro-2-(3-chloro-4-methoxyphenyl)-4-hydroxy-1,2,5,10-tetrahydropyridazino[4,5-b]quinoline-1,10-dione (previously prepared in Example 37 1.00 g, 2.47 mM) was stirred in methanesulfonic acid (20 mL) to give a black solution. This solution was heated to 145° C. for 6 hours and cooled to room temperature. Water (60 mL) was added to give a tan suspension which was stirred for 3 hours and filtered. The collected solids were washed with water and ether to give the title compound as a gold powder (0.98 g, 76 %), mp 350-353° C.; MS(CI): 390.
