Procedure
The product from step (iii) (1 g) and uracil (3 g) were heated at 100° C. in acetic acid (200 ml) for 16 h. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue partitioned between ethyl acetate and brine. The organic phase was collected, dried (MgSO4), and evaporated under reduced pressure to leave a beige solid. The solid was triturated with isohexane/ethyl acetate mixtures and filtered to leave a cream solid. Yield. 1.35 g Used directly in the next step.
