A mixture of 2-(1-methyl-4-phenyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)-7-(methylthio)[1,3]thiazolo-[5,4-d]pyrimidine (Intermediate 42) (0.25 g), N-bromosuccinimide (0.26 g) and AIBN (37 mg) in carbon tetrachloride (30 mL) was heated at 70° C. for 18 hours The suspension was filtered and the residue washed well with CCl4. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo to give a yellow solid. Purification by flash chromatography on silica eluting with EtOAC:hexane (1:9) gave the title compound as a white solid (0.12 g, 39%);
