Procedure
To a solution of 1-bromo-5-methyl-4-oxo-7-trifluoromethyl-4,5-dihydroimidazo[1,5-a]quinoxaline 3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (3.2 g) in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) (30 ml) was added potassium acetate (2.5 g) with stirring. The mixture was heated on a steam bath for one hour. Water was then added to cause the precipitation of crude product as a white solid (2.3 g, 85% yield). Recrystallized from a mixture of acetonitrile, chloroform and methanol, m.p. >300° C.
