A mixture of the crude product prepared in Step B in 80 ml of CH2Cl2 and containing 7.69 ml of triethylamine was treated with N,N'-thiobisphthalimide (DMF solvate) (7.35 g; 18.5 mmoles). After stirring at ambient temperature for one hour, the mixture was washed with 50 ml of 4 N NaOH, water, saturated aqueous NaCl solution, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated under reduced pressure to give the crude product. The product was purified by flash chromatography on 100 g of silica gel (230-400 mesh) using ethyl acetate-methanol (95:5) as the eluent to give 3.63 g of the title compound as a viscous oil. Treatment of the product with one equivalent of cyclohexyl sulfamic acid in acetone gave the cyclohexyl sulfamate salt of the title compound, mp 125.5°-131° C.
