Procedure

A mixture of 5 g of 2,5,8-heptadecatriyn-1-ol, one drop of pyridine and 2 g of phosphorus tribromide in 20 cm3 of ethyl ether is heated under reflux for 3 hours. The ether phase is then washed initially with sodium bicarbonate and then with water, and then dried over magnesium sulphate.
