Procedure

2-amino-5-methoxyphenol hydrochloride (6 g) in 80 ml of water was stirred at room temperature while thiophosgene (3.92 g) was added dropwise as a solution in 30 ml of diethyl ether at a rate such that the resultant exotherm was controlled.
