Procedure
A 500 ml autoclave was charged in a glove box (O2 content <1 ppm) with 24.0 g (155.6 mmol) of (E)-3,7-dimethylocta-2,6-dien-1-ol, 22 ml of methanol and 100 ml of catalyst solution. This mixture was hydrogenated at 20°, a constant pressure of 60 bar H2 and while stirring intensively. The conversion was 100% after 48 hours. The pale yellow hydrogenation solution was rinsed from the autoclave and evaporated on a rotary evaporator at 60°/17 mbar. The residue was distilled at 65%/0.01 mbar. There were obtained 23.8 g of (R)-3,7-dimethyloct-6-en-1-ol as a colourless oil with an enantiomeric purity of 98.4% e.e.
