A solution of 0.7 g. of sodium sulfite heptahydrate in 3 ml. of water was added to 0.5 g. of 2,3-dihydro-5-hydroperoxy-5-phenyl-5H-imidazo[2,1-a]isoindole in 7 ml. of dimethylformamide. The solution was heated to 100° for 15 minutes. On cooling and addition of 20 ml. of water, 2-(2-benzoylphenyl)-2-imidazoline was obtained.
