Procedure
The hydrochloride was prepared by adding a solution of hydrogen chloride in ether to a suspension of 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-2,3-dihydro-5-hydroxy-5H-imidazo[2,1-a]isoindole. After stirring for 30 minutes a crystalline crop was collected and recrystallized from a mixture of chloroform and ether to give white prisms melting at 168°-171° dec. Ultraviolet inflexion (2-propanol) at 220 μ (ε = 22,000), maxima at 252 μ (ε = 12,900), 266 μ (ε = 13,000); infrared absorption (KBr) at 1670 cm-1.
