Procedure
17.6 of 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide were added to 1.79 g of methyl 4-[1-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl)-2-(imidazol-1-yl)ethylthio]benzoate (prepared as described in Example 37) in 17.6 ml of methanol, and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4.5 hours. 8.8 ml of a 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide were added to the reaction mixture and it was then neutralized with 1N aqueous hydrochloric acid, after which it was treated and purified by the same method as described in Example 16, to give 1.61 g of the title compound as colorless crystals, melting at 198°-202° C.
