Procedure

1.30 ml of a 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide was added to 260 mg of methyl 4-[1-(2-methoxyphenyl)-2-(imidazol-1-yl)ethylsulfonyl]benzoate (prepared as described in Example 41) in 4 ml of methanol, and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1.5 hours. At the end of this time, the resulting mixture was neutralized with 1.30 ml of 1N aqueous hydrochloric acid, and the reaction mixture was treated and purified by the same method as described in Example 34, to give 214 mg of the title compound as a colorless powdery substance, melting at 134°-138° C.

Workup

  1. additionthe reaction mixture was treated
  2. custompurified by the same method
