Procedure
3.39 ml of a 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide were added to 575 mg of methyl-4-[1-(3-pyridyl)-2-(imidazol-1-yl)ethylthio]benzoate (prepared as described in Example 45) in 7 ml of methanol, and the resulting mixture was stirred at 40° C. for 5 hours. At the end of this time, the resulting mixture was neutralized with 3.39 ml of 1N aqueous hydrochloric acid, and the reaction mixture was treated and purified by the same method as described in Example 34, to give 305 mg of the title compound as a powder, melting at 80°-83° C.
