Procedure

A mixture of 3-nitro-6-thioxo-1,6-dihydropyridin-2-carbonitrile (4.42 mmol, 1.34 g), 3,5-diflurobenzylbenzylbromide (8.83 mmol, 1.828 g), and K2CO3 (11.04 mmol, 1.525 g) in 5 ml of acetone is heated at 70° C. for 10 hours and then evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue is purified by silica gel chromatography (AcOEt/heptane) to yield 1.33 g (98%) of the expected product.
