A solution of HCl (0.8 N, 906 μl) was added to a solution of 2-(4-(pyridin-2-yl)but-3-ynyl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole (90 mg) in dioxane (5 mL). The reaction mixture was cooled in the fridge for 1 hour. The resulting precipitate was filtered, washed with cold dioxane and diethyl ether and dried to yield 2-(4-(pyridin-2-yl)but-3-ynyl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole hydrochloride (99 mg, 0.35 mmol, 60%) as a white solid.
