(27) A mixture of compound (26) (1.0 g, 3.4 mmol) and pyridine hydrochloride (3.9 g, 34 mmol) was heated to 140 C for 1 hour. After it cooled to room temperature, the resultant was diluted with water. The product was collected on a filter and dried in vacuo. 2-(4-Fluoro-benzyl)-5-nitro-pyrimidine-4,6-diol (27) was obtained in a yield of 62% (1.1 g). 1H NMR (DMSO-d6)
