Procedure
n-Butyl lithium (1.7 M in hexane, 1.2 eq) is added dropwise over 1 hour to a solution of 1,2-dicyclopropyldisulfane (1 eq) in THF (1.5 mL/mmol), at −20° C. (S)-4-(bromomethyl)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane (1.1 eq) is then added at −78° C. and stiffing at −78° C. continued for an additional 4 hours. Saturated aqueous ammonium chloride solution is added and the mixture is extracted with ethyl acetate (3×). The combined organic extracts are dried (Na2SO4) and purified by flash chromatography (ethyl acetate in hexane eluant).
